
IPY-5 Planning Group
The IPY-5 Planning Group is comprised of representatives of international organisations. It meets twice a year and:

provides input, advice and overall direction for the IPY planning process and the IPY Executive Committee

prepares, presents and assists in taking forward specific issues to the IPY Executive Committee

IPY-5 Executive Committee
The IPY-5 Executive Committee is composed of representatives of the
- International Arctic Science Committee (IASC),
- Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR),
- International Science Council (ISC)
- World Meteorological Organization (WMO),
- plus others as needed.
This committee moves planning efforts forward between IPY-5 Planning Group Meetings and takes overall responsibility for the direction and development of the IPY-5.

IPY-5 Task Groups
Tasks Groups are short-term groups that to work on developing a strategy for specific aspects of the IPY-5 planning process. They are not intended to be long-term committees, but rather starting points for shaping more permanent components of the IPY planning framework.
Interim IPY-5 Secretariat
The interim IPY-5 Secretariat is currently provided by the Secretariats of International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) from its existing staff members with additional contributions from the International Science Council (ISC).
