Fostering the widest possible international cooperation across countries, disciplines, sectors and knowledge systems to generate trusted knowledge for global challenges.

Supporting equitable participation and long-term partnerships that recognise and value diverse perspectives, experiences and contributions throughout IPY-5.

Diverse knowledge systems
Bringing together scientific, Indigenous and traditional knowledge systems through ethical engagement, mutual respect and equitable knowledge co-production.

Integrated approaches
Promoting holistic, transdisciplinary research that connects natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, health sciences and the humanities while minimising environmental impacts wherever possible.

Knowledge without borders
Strengthening collaboration between Arctic and Antarctic research communities through shared observations, infrastructure, expertise and open exchange of knowledge.

Open and trusted science
Supporting open science and responsible data sharing, following FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) and CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility and Ethics) principles wherever appropriate.

Capacity and resilience
Building scientific capacity by supporting early career researchers, Indigenous Peoples and under-represented groups while strengthening long-term international partnerships and resilient research communities.

Promoting effective science communication, education and public engagement to strengthen understanding of why the polar regions matter to every nation and every generation.
