National Representatives Coordination Committee (NRCC)
An IPY-5 National Representatives Coordination Committee (NRCC) will be formed to:
-
facilitate communication and cooperation between the various national IPY-5 planning efforts; and to
-
connect the national planning efforts with the international coordination of the IPY-5 led by the IPY-5 Planning Group and Executive Committee.
The committee is expected to be in operation from the first half of 2026 until December 2034.
The first meeting is planned for the ASSW 2026 in Aarhus, Denmark.
Composition
The NRCC will be composed of
-
up to two representatives from each IPY-5 National Committee.
-
One representative of each of the organisations in the IPY-5 Executive Committee (IASC, SCAR, WMO, ISC)
-
up to two members of the IPY-5 Interim Secretariat / International Coordination Office (ex-officio)
Meeting Frequency
The NRCC will meet twice a year. The expectation is that the majority of these meetings will be online, though hybrid meetings may be called with a physical presence alongside major relevant major Arctic or Antarctic conferences in the lead-up to the IPY-5.
Leadership
The NRCC will have a Chair and two Vice-Chairs elected from within the committee members for a term of two years. The Chair / Vice-Chairs may be re-elected for one additional term.
Reporting to the IPY-5 Planning Group
The Chair (or an alternate representative) of the NRCC will report to the biannual IPY-5 Planning Group meetings to ensure direct communication between the international coordination of IPY-5 and the national activities.
